Is Conductor shutting down?

Partly, and on a schedule. Conductor says it is joining Meta and will wind down. The local Mac app is not switched off yet. The cloud product is. These dates come from the official announcement.

DateWhat happens
Nov 4, 2026No new sign-ups or downloads. Existing free users cannot upgrade. Pro users keep pro features for free.
Nov 13, 2026Conductor Cloud goes read-only. You can read old chats and export data. Active subscribers get a refund.
Nov 20, 2026Conductor Cloud shuts down and cloud data deletion begins.
Early 2027Local Conductor stops getting new models and critical fixes, and starts winding down.

To move a cloud workspace, right-click it and choose Transfer to local. To export everything, open Settings, Account, Export data. Do it before November 20.

The 10 to try first

Stars come from the GitHub API on 2026-11-05. Closed-source tools show n/a. Platform and agent columns come from each project's README or site and can lag behind releases. Prices are what each site printed on 2026-11-05. Where a site printed none, the table says Not published.

How to choose

Match your agents

List the agents you use today. If you run Claude Code and Codex, filter the table for both before you look at anything else.

Check the platform

Many of these are Mac-only. If your team has Windows or Linux machines, filter for them first.

Read the license

MIT and Apache-2.0 are permissive. AGPL and GPL require you to share your changes if you distribute a modified app. Source-available licenses like BSL and FSL restrict some uses.

Check the last commit

Conductor shows what tool risk looks like. Open the repo link for any open-source pick and confirm commits landed this month.

A desktop app stops one developer's agents from stepping on each other. It does not give a team shared rules. For that, start with a good CLAUDE.md and agreed hooks and permissions.

For teams

Rolling out parallel coding agents for your team?

AY Automate sets up Claude Code systems in hours: shared CLAUDE.md, hooks, skills, permissions and review rules, so ten agents do not make ten different messes. We are a formal Claude partner.

FAQ

Conductor questions

The shutdown dates, how to move your data, and how we checked the list.

01Is Conductor shutting down?

Yes, in stages. On November 4, 2026 Conductor announced it is joining Meta. New sign-ups and downloads stopped that day. Conductor Cloud goes read-only on November 13 and shuts down on November 20. The local Mac app keeps getting new models and critical bug fixes until early 2027. Source: conductor.build/announcement.

02Why is Conductor shutting down?

The team says it is joining Meta and working on a new interface it hopes to release early next year. The announcement gives no reason beyond that, so we will not guess.

03Can I keep using Conductor for now?

The local app, yes, until early 2027 per the announcement. Conductor Cloud, no, after November 20. Existing free users can no longer upgrade to a pro plan, but pro users keep pro features for free. Active subscribers get a refund.

04How do I move my Conductor cloud workspaces?

Right-click a cloud workspace and choose Transfer to local. To export everything, go to Settings, Account, Export data. Do this before November 20, when Conductor starts deleting cloud data.

05What is the best Conductor alternative?

It depends on your platform and agents. By GitHub stars the biggest is Orca, with 116,292 stars on 2026-11-05. Paradev and Termic describe themselves as Conductor alternatives. Use the comparison table to filter by platform, agent and price.

06Is there a free or open-source Conductor alternative?

Yes. 43 of the 58 tools here use an open-source license such as MIT, Apache-2.0, AGPL or GPL. You still pay for the agents they run, like a Claude or ChatGPT plan.

07Which alternatives work with Claude Code?

Nearly all of them. Each row lists the agents we found in the project's README or site. Check the repo before you commit, because agent support changes fast.

08How did you verify these tools?

We started from a list of 69 tools in a viral post. For each one we looked up a GitHub repo or an official site. 11 could not be confirmed as a coding-agent tool and were dropped. Stars come from the GitHub API on 2026-11-05. Price, platform and agents come from each project's README or site, so they can lag. Closed-source tools have no star count.

09Does a team need more than a tool like Conductor to run parallel coding agents?

A desktop app helps one developer. A team also needs shared CLAUDE.md files, hooks, permissions and review rules, otherwise ten agents make ten different messes. That is the work AY Automate does for teams.
