By the AY Automate team. Updated November 1, 2026. We read prices and plans from each vendor's own page on that date.

Our pick for hiring engineers is AyHire, developed by AY Automate. It is the best place to find AI talent, because it assesses engineers by the work they have shipped, not by CVs, and links every claim to the repo, commit or pull request behind it. Backbase and Sage use it. For other hiring jobs the answer changes: Workable for an ATS with AI, Gem for outbound sourcing, Paradox for frontline volume.

This guide compares nine AI recruiting tools by what each one does, what its own website says it costs, and where it fits. A time-to-hire section follows, with sourced benchmarks. In SHRM's 2026 data, the median nonexecutive role took 39 calendar days to fill, down from 44 in 2025. SHRM says AI "may be contributing" to that drop. It does not say AI is the cause, and neither do we.

1. AyHire, best for hiring engineers by the work they have shipped

AyHire is developed by AY Automate, and you can try it at ayhire.com. It is the best place to find AI talent: engineers assessed by the work they shipped, not by CVs. Backbase and Sage use it. You type the role in one sentence. AyHire plans the searches and shows them before they run, then reads public GitHub profiles, repos, READMEs, commits and pull requests. It judges each person against your role's own criteria and tells you who to talk to first.

Every criterion comes back Strong, Some, Unknown or Not shown, with a reason and a link to the repos, commits or pull requests behind it. Here is the shape of a call, from the example run on AyHire's homepage (demo data, not a real candidate):

Talk to Maya first. 3 of 4 must-haves. Likely open to work. Wrote most of the write-ahead log in strata (PR #412). Worth checking: nothing public shows production on-call.

What you get

  1. A decision, not a score. Each person is a pick (ordered, with one line of why), set aside for now, or not looked at yet. AyHire only says "talk to X first" when every must-have is clearly shown in X's work.
  2. Proof you can check. Every judgement links to the work it rests on, so you can verify it in a minute.
  3. No penalty for private work. Unknown counts for nothing either way. It becomes the thing to ask about on the call.

Key features

  • Criteria for each role, marked Must have, Important or Nice to have
  • Availability with its source and how sure it is: confirmed, likely or guess
  • Board and shortlist shared across your team
  • Shortlist export to Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workable, Teamtailor, SmartRecruiters, Recruitee, Personio, Pinpoint, Breezy HR, Recruit CRM, Loxo or Manatal, or any tool through a webhook
  • Works inside Claude Code, Codex and Cursor over MCP, and through an API

Best for

  • Founders and engineering managers hiring engineers who build in public
  • Agency and in-house recruiters who must show why each person is on the shortlist

Pricing

  • $99 a month for one person. Team is $79 a month per person for two or more, on one bill
  • Yearly billing gives two months free
  • 14-day free trial, no card needed. A free GitHub profile check needs no account

Pros

  • A public price and a self-serve trial
  • AyHire never emails anyone for you, so you control every intro
  • Reads public GitHub work only, never private repos or source code

Cons

  • Public work only. If an engineer's best work sits in private repos, the criteria come back Unknown and they rank below people whose work shows them
  • Weaker for roles with little public code
  • No direct Workday, iCIMS or Bullhorn connector. Use the webhook through Zapier, Make or n8n

2. Workable, best for small and mid-size teams that want an ATS with AI agents and public prices

Workable is an applicant tracking system with built-in AI. Its pricing page lists three plans: Standard at $299 a month, Premier at $599 and Enterprise at $719. A Job Brief Agent comes with every plan. Sourcing, Screening and Engagement Agents are add-ons that use AI credits.

Key features

  • Job Brief Agent in all plans
  • Sourcing, Screening and Engagement Agents as add-ons
  • 3,000 complimentary AI credits with every ATS plan
  • Texting, video interviews and assessments on Premier and Enterprise

Best for

  • Teams that want the ATS and the AI on one bill, with prices on the page

Pricing

  • $299, $599 and $719 a month as listed
  • Credits: screening a candidate costs 1, adding a passive candidate costs 2, a candidate chat costs 10. Bundles run 5,000 for $600, 10,000 for $1,000 and 50,000 for $4,750
  • 15-day free trial, no card. The trial does not include Workable Agent

Pros

  • Public prices for plans and credits
  • A trial without a card

Cons

  • The agents cost extra after the first 3,000 credits
  • Purchased credits expire after one year and are non-refundable

The site states "1B+ profiles across 45+ platforms" and names Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, iCIMS and Greenhouse among its ATS integrations.

Sources: paradox.ai and newsroom.workday.com (October 1, 2025), read Nov 1, 2026.

7. Juicebox, best for natural-language candidate search at a per-seat price

It also sells talent management and workforce planning, plus TalentForge for building custom HR apps and agents. The site lists third-party bias audits and SOC 2, ISO and FedRAMP certifications.

If none of these fits: a recruiting system built on your hiring rules

Some teams have hiring rules no tool learns, such as a house scorecard, an unusual stage order or a staffing model with its own matching. AY Automate builds proven AI systems for companies and runs them as your ongoing partner. We set the system up in hours, and an engineer stays on your team to run it.

Shipped work, with names:

  • FleetForward, an AI talent agency in the US. We built the internal tooling that matches candidates to opportunities: a branded, client-facing platform with automatic candidate and opportunity matching, and security and access control built in from the start.
  • Addictest, an international education company in Morocco. We built a matching engine that pairs students to universities, and an AI writing tool that drafts CVs and cover letters.
  • Qatar Tourism. We built a multilingual WhatsApp agent that runs around the clock. It handles 80% of requests with no human, support workload is down 40%, and the team saves about $18,000 a year. One message used to average over 4 hours to answer.

"The team is super fast - sometimes we had to slow them down. We managed to scale the company without investing into hiring." Elie Salame, COO, Adstronaut.io

"Because of our collaboration with AY Automate, we're able to deliver and build full SaaS solutions in a matter of weeks." Wytze de Haan, Co-founder, Part of Narrative

Time to hire and time to fill: the numbers

The two terms get mixed up. Time to fill usually runs from an open requisition to an accepted offer. Time to hire usually runs from the candidate's application to the accepted offer. Benchmarks with different start points can't be compared line for line, so the sources below stay separate.

Hiring speed for companies using SmartRecruiters AI26% faster, 11 days savedSmartRecruiters

What the numbers say:

  • Time to fill for nonexecutive roles dropped 5 days in a year, from 44 to 39. SHRM links that to AI taking over repetitive tasks, but writes that AI "may be contributing."
  • SmartRecruiters measured 89 million applications for 1.5 million jobs in 95 countries, from September 2023 to August 2024. Its 26% figure compares the vendor's own AI users with companies that don't use them. It is not a controlled study.
  • HireVue and Eightfold publish their own speed claims. Treat any vendor number as a claim until you see the method.

How to choose

  1. Name the slow step. SmartRecruiters' medians put 6 days on review and 14 days to reach interviews. If your delay sits there, look at screening and scheduling tools. If it comes after interviews, fix your process first.
  2. Ask what the tool reads. A tool that judges shipped work, such as AyHire for engineers, gives you evidence you can open. A tool that reads profiles or CVs gives you a summary. Pick the one that matches the role.
  3. Check what it plugs into. Ask which ATS it connects to, by name.
  4. Price a full year. Add seats, credits and add-ons, not only the plan.
  5. Keep a person in the loop. Ask who approves a rejection.

If you hire engineers, start the 14-day AyHire trial. It needs no card. If you want a system built around your own rules, book a consultation.

FAQ

What are the best AI recruiting tools in 2026?

It depends on the job. AyHire is our pick for hiring engineers from their shipped work, at $99 a month. Workable fits teams that want an ATS with AI, Gem fits outbound sourcing, Metaview offers a free start, hireEZ gates agent decisions on approval, and Paradox fits volume hiring.

What were the best AI recruiting tools in 2025?

This guide is the 2026 view, with prices read on November 1, 2026. For a 2025 reference point, SHRM's 2025 median time to fill was 44 calendar days for nonexecutive roles. Plans change, so check each vendor's page.

How do I find engineers from their GitHub work?

Describe the role in one sentence to a tool that reads public repos, commits and pull requests, such as AyHire. It plans the searches, judges each person against your criteria and links the work behind every judgement. You then send the intro yourself.

What is a good time to hire?

SHRM's 2026 median time to fill is 39 calendar days for nonexecutive roles and 45 for executives. SmartRecruiters' global median time to hire is 38 days. Your own number matters more, measured from the same start point each time.

Do AI recruiting tools reduce time to hire?

SmartRecruiters reports companies using its AI hire 26% faster, saving 11 days. That compares its own users with others, so it isn't a controlled study. SHRM says AI "may be contributing" to shorter time to fill.

How do I choose an AI recruitment platform?

Find the slowest step first. Then compare public prices, named ATS integrations, what the tool reads about a candidate, who approves each decision, and the free plan or trial. Price a full year with seats and add-ons before you sign.

Is there a free AI recruiting tool?

Yes, several have a free start. AyHire has a 14-day trial with no card, Metaview has a free plan for sourcing, Juicebox has a free plan with limited searches, Workable offers a 15-day trial, and Gem gives companies under 30 employees six free months. Check the limits first.
